Start Growing your YouTube Channel using Keywords Everywhere

“I’ve started my YouTube channel, but I can’t seem to get anybody to watch!”

Struggling YouTubers & Streamers looking to expand to YouTube for the first time

Sound Familiar? The problem may not be in the content you are producing. Instead, the issue may lie in the search volume of the words that you chose to utilize within your title & description. In other words, you probably optimized for the wrong Keyword.

If this bell rings a little bit too close to home, you aren’t alone. Many in this position struggle to gain traction, and it has to do with simple ignorance of SEO or Search Engine Optimization.

“But wait, I’m on YouTube! What does SEO have to do with me? Youtube isn’t a search engine, right?”

Would It surprise you if we told you that YouTube is, in fact, the second biggest Search Engine?

Indeed it is, and as such, things like the words you use in your title matter quite a lot. In our humble opinion, even more so than the thumbnail that many seem to focus too much on. Not that thumbnail design isn’t important, mind you. We just think the title matters a bit more.

So, what can you do to take advantage of this untapped potential, and revitalize every single video you’ve ever uploaded? Utilize Keyword Research tools, like Keywords Everywhere, Ahrefs, Moz, or others.

SEO in a nutshell – Plaster Keywords Everywhere in an Organic way

This is a screenshot of Keywords Everywhere in the YouTube Dark mode . Any keyword that is highlighted in green meet our specific criteria for a potential article. We are featuring the “Right to Repair” keyword in particular because we support that movement. We’ll provide a link to a tutorial article on how we configured it at a later date

We are intimately familiar with SEO tools, given our primary means of generating traffic is via SEO. However, the particular tool we utilize to do this also works for YouTube. It displays invaluable data to you for use in planning content titles.

That said, too much of a good thing is bad for you. If you try to repeat said keyword hundreds of times, you then get flagged for “Keyword Stuffing”.

And that, my friends, Is bad.

How bad? Oh, nothing much, just a complete removal from search results.

No big deal.

“All things in moderation” is a wonderful quote and one that we abide by. We strongly recommend you do the same when dealing with keywords.

Finally, It takes time! It won’t result in an over-night boost in traffic from a bit of keyword optimization. Youtube has to crawl through the database and find your updated video for the algorithm to realize your changes.

A Brief lesson in SEO: The Title is way too darned long!

Some titles are too long to fit. There is a character limit.
Some exceptions are well-established brands, they can name the videos whatever they want at that point; their name sells itself.

There is also another factor to consider when naming your videos; Title Length. See, there is a limited number of characters that fit in a YouTube Title.

This number is 70.

However, if you want the title SEO value to carry over to google results, that number is further reduced to 60.

Results when you search up "EposVox" on Google.
This is what shows up when you search “EposVox” on Google. Notice the “…” at the end? The titles are a little bit too long to fit in here. (That said, check these videos out! They are super helpful!)

By snipping the excess information from the title, and encapsulating it to within 60 characters, including spaces, your titles will appear to have a professional touch to them. This can make the difference between a click, or being ignored.

We’ll quickly mention that the length doesn’t matter for those whose brand has self-perpetuated into its own category. At this point, you watch the video because “Jacksepticeye” made it, Not because the content looks interesting. You’ve watched enough of his content to trust that it will be worth watching, so you click and watch it. Enter, Fandom.

With that out of the way, Let’s get into the meat of the article; Why you are here, The Keyword tools.

Our Preferred Keyword research tool for YouTube

A preview of the extension "Keywords Everywhere"
See that “97,221”? That’s how many additional queries We can do. This cost us only $10, around six months ago.

Our most used tool in our repertoire is “Keywords Everywhere”, a paid chrome extension that parses your searches and gives you valuable data regarding their search volume.

And before you jump ship, the price is absurdly reasonable. We purchased their 100,000 keyword query package, and in six months have only used 2789 in total. This has resulted in 43 separate articles with decent traffic. Most notably is our pillar article involving the Minimum internet speed necessary for streaming on Twitch. This single article, sourced from a keyword research session, has produced more traffic for us than literally any other article on our site.

All thanks to Keywords Everywhere. And no, this is not sponsored, nor is it an affiliate link. We really do love this tool and want to see you succeed. Keyword research is an extremely important process to undertake in any content endeavor, including YouTube channels.

What about creators on Twitch, YouTube, or other platforms need keywords in their titles?

In the case of live stream platforms, the answer to whether or not high-value keywords within the title matter is a bit on the vague side of things. Perhaps it does!

But perhaps not.

The real issue is that a live stream is only available while it is being broadcast. Outside of any vods, of course. This pretty much eliminates your channel from being found via a search query on google. This is precisely the reason that starting a YouTube Channel is something the streaming community recommends to just about all streamers.

It certainly couldn’t hurt to research some relevant Keywords being searched on google and testing it; but again, during our two years of being an active streamer, we didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary whether we used high-value keywords or not.

It certainly couldn’t hurt to research some relevant Keywords being searched on google and testing it;

It could just be that the audience that would be searching for those keywords were not using the twitch platform, but this is a subject certainly worth exploring.

Sadly, Our extension of choice does not generate search data when using the search bar on Twitch or Mixer. Is it really Keywords everywhere at that point? You decide!

Other Keyword tools (Primarily for websites)

Now, we haven’t had the chance to test all of the tools featured within this article we are going to direct you to, however, we know enough about several of them that we can trust what they say about them.

This article by backlinko covers many tools, including free ones that we have not had the chance to verify if they work with YouTube keyword research, but in theory, they should; to some degree.

Some Highlights are:

  • Keywords Everywhere (Of Course)
  • Ahref’s Keyword Explorer
  • Google Search Console + Analytics
  • Google Keyword Planner
  • Moz Keyword Explorer
  • & Google Trends.

I have used all of the tools that we have highlighted here to some degree when I worked for a Web marketing company back in 2016. We still use Keywords Everywhere, Google Search Console + Analytics, Moz Keyword explorer & Google Trends regularly.

The last one is fairly helpful because it can inform you when you need to re-rank old content for a new synonym when search volume begins to dip.

However, since you do not own the YouTube Domain, The Google Search Console & Analytics will not work for you. In this case, the General Keyword research tools that do not rely on domain ownership will be your go-to. This is including our recommended tool. So get planning, and revitalize your Youtube channel using Relevant Keywords, literally everywhere!

How to tell if your content is the issue:

Audience Retention of YouTube Videos
Our viewer retention for our first video is pretty low, but hey, it is what it is.

On the other hand, if your watch time cuts off around the same time, but you’re generating a lot of views, that is when you know your content has an issue in audience retention.

In this case, you would study the point in the video where the drop occurred;

Did you make an edeting mistake?

Perhaps the audio spiked and blew out the ears of headphone users!

Maybe it was too quiet and nobody could hear you…

Whatever the case may be, analyzing your video metrics will paint a picture of your old content, and provide lessons to learn from mistakes that you made.

Just be careful to not fall prey to the metrics, or your productivity will take a serious hit.
