Join Jacksepticeye, fight COVID-19 – “United We Stream”

On April 7th, World Health day, a massive fundraiser being spearheaded by JackSepticEye on YouTube. The Goal? Eradicate COVID-19. If you Stream, Join Us!

I was hesitating to write about this pandemic, seeing as this is a blog that revolves around live streaming. However, I recently had the pleasure of watching a video released by Jacksepticeye. In this video, Sean wants to inform as many content creators as possible about this fundraiser. And I share this sentiment.

He is Collaborating Directly with:

The event is called “United We Stream”. Watch his announcement video here.

Why “United We Stream” is important for fighting COVID-19

As content creators, we are one of the very few niches that are substantially less impacted by the ongoing crisis. This is why I believe it is important to utilize the time we have to gather as many resources as we can. All in effort to beat down this plague upon society.

We also serve as a conduit of sorts where people gather. As such, our words, our media, our content are an anchor for those who are in dire straits. If there is something everybody needs right now, it’s quality entertainment.

But also important is the funds necessary to research and combat this disease. And so we come to “United We Stream” and JackSepticeye’s efforts to coordinate this massive event.

The goal of this event is to generate this vital funding from those who are capable of contributing towards the goal of eradicating this disease like we did Polio. Like we did Smallpox. This funding is necessary in order to keep these research facilities operational in a safe and secure manner.

Details about the event

Again, The event takes place on April 7th, 2020, which is ironically “World Health Day”. The idea is to utilize this convenient holiday as a point of interest to rally on, to generate interest, and awareness.

There are two hashtags to attempt to get trending on Twitter, so if you create content there, #UnitedWeStream and #HopeFromHome are the ones you want. We’ll update this post if anything changes in that regard, but it shouldn’t.

If you are on the Mixer.com or Twitch.tv Streaming platform, add those hashtags to your title asap for all future streams to get your audience aware of them.

How you can help if you are not a content creator

If you yourself are not a content creator, you can still help! There are several ways to do so, and we’ll go over them and add more as we go.

Even if you are financially unable to contribute, there are several ways to do so, including a guide to start streaming yourself:

We have a guide to get you started if you wanted to join the movement directly!

Of course, if you have the necessary internet speed and a device capable of streaming, you could even join the streaming effort yourself!

The Ultimate Guide to a better stream

There are so many different things about streaming that you need to know in order to be successful. That’s why I wrote this awesome guide to help you along the way!

If you’re starting up your stream for the first time, @mrgoodhand on twitter, and if I get a chance, I’ll try to stop by your streams and answer any questions you have on the subject.

Participating in #HomeFromHome and #UnitedWeStream as a viewer

I’m going to let you in on a little secret; Even if you are financially unable to contribute to the effort, the simple act of being present in one of those streams will be beneficial. Why? You give someone somebody to talk to. Amid the social distancing efforts in place, the human connection is the one most desired these days.

It’s a simple gesture, and who knows, you might just end up making a few new friends in a way you may be unaccustomed to.

Participating as a Researcher with Folding@Home to disassemble the COVID-19 Disease

If you have a computer, you can be a digital researcher. How? Distributed computing. With this specialized research program, you “fold” the coronavirus protein in various work units in different ways.

Folding@Home is run by Stanford University, and the computing power of this network of computers just passed the Exaflop processing threshold. This makes it as fast as the top 25 supercomputers…Combined!

Check out this video by Linus Tech Tips over on YouTube to learn how to get started with that.

Physical Participation with 3D Printed valves & other medical equipment

The next way to battle COVID-19 is to get into the 3D printing world. See, 3D printing can be used to create pretty much anything you can think of. Of particular interest right now are Full-face Visors for medical staff, and of course, Ventilator valves.

The visors can be very cheaply printed, and you can donate them to your local health facilities to help with treatment and safety.

That said, there are certain restrictions regarding these, so we very strongly recommend checking this video by the 3D Printing Nerd:

If you have a 3D printer collecting dust, now’s the time to use it.

If you would like to invest in one, the Creality Ender 3 Pro is a great start, as recommended in this video. Do your research on this if you do decide to buy any of this.
